Species: human
Appearances
Ultima Underworld II
Location: Killorn Keep

Relk is the captain of the guard at Killorn Keep. He appears in Ultima Underworld II.

Description[edit]

Despite being favored by the Guardian, Relk was not well-liked by many in the castle, and had a reputation for cruelty. Should the Avatar speak with him while visiting the Keep, Relk would invite the hero to meet with him privately in his quarters and would there make an attempt to kill his guest.[1]

In the scant dialogue shared between the two before they exchanged blows, Relk would reveal that he knew the Avatar's name and title, and that his homicidal orders had been given by the Guardian. Should Relk fall in battle, the denizens of Killorn would brush his death aside as accidental, and Lobar would be promoted to his post.[2]

Lore[edit]

Relk, chief of security, holds the real power here, and thus is little liked. Probably he represents a younger version of Thibris — a talented soldier and strict disciplinarian, being groomed for a command position in the Guardian's invasion forces. His domineering ways have made him few friends here, though none save poor Lobar dare flaunt his authority. Steer clear of him.

Trivia[edit]

  • The player may learn from a letter in Relk's room and by speaking to the trilkhun Josie that Relk was ordered to set a trap for the Avatar using the world's blackrock gem, having received orders to do so from Mors Gotha.
  • Should the Avatar confront Relk about his possession of the blackrock gem, he will ask if the hero was sent by a group or individual known as "Nocticle Sartre." Which is an anagram of Electronic Arts.[1]
  • Should the Avatar betray Altara to Mystell, it will be necessary to bring her Relk's skull to regain her trust. Killing Relk, however, will leave Mystell deeply suspicious of the hero.[3][4]
