Lady Jehanne is the provisioner of Serpent's Hold during Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

Jehanne had little to say about the other inhabitants of the castle and seemed to speak mostly of the particulars of her work. In addition to offering a number of essentials and drygoods for sale, the lady had also come into possession of a ship known as the Dragon's Breath, which had formerly been the Constellation before it had been destroyed in the midst of a pirate attack and rebuilt. She offered to sell the vessel for a sum of 600 crowns.[1]

Jehanne was lady to Sir Pendaran, a knight whom she had met three years prior. Recently, her beloved had joined with the Fellowship, and she spoke nervously as to the changes she felt the society had brought upon him, rendering him less individualistic and isolating him from his former friends, such as Menion, the castle's trainer.[2]

Should the Avatar be investigating the vandalism of one of the keep's statues of the sovereign, Sir Jordan would reveal that he had heard Jehanne screaming on the night of the incident. If confronted with this information that lady would break down and confess that Pendaran had come to her that evening after committing the deed, his sword covered in the blood of another knight. Emotionally tormented by her lover's guilt, the distressed woman wondered aloud what could have so transformed him that he would thus lash out. The hero could thereafter bring the inquiry to a close, informing Pendaran of his discovery and bringing news of the crime to Lord John-Paul.[3][4]

Lore[edit]

In the hold proper reside the rest of us: myself; Lady Leigh, the healer; Sir Horffe, the captain of the guard; Sir Pendaran and his lady, the lovely Jehanne, who spends her time trading provisions to fill Serpent’s Hold’s needs.

Trivia[edit]

  • Lady Jehanne's real-world counterpart is Ultima VII designer Brian Martin's wife, Pam. Martin, himself, also appears as Sir Pendaran.[6] The two respectively participate as Jehanne d'Avignon and Pendaran Glamorgan in the Society for Creative Anachronism's barony of Bryn Gwlad,[7] where Richard Garriott has been known to assume the persona of Shamino Sallé Dacil.
  • In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, Jehanne will confess to Pendaran's involvement in the defacing without being prompted by Jordan's account, allowing the player to avoid most of the other dialogue relating to the plot.[8]
  • Buying a jug from her is impossible thanks to a bug. It will only result in a garbled graphic in the backpack which cannot removed or interacted with.
