Valkadesh Wis-lem, Valkadesh the Scholar, is a wizened Gargoyle living in the Realm of the Gargoyles in Ultima VI.
Description[edit]
The father of Beh Lem, Valkadesh had been honored with a partial name by the Gargoyle people. If the Avatar had not yet mastered the Gargoyle language, he advised the hero, in broken speech, to speak with Captain Johne in Hythloth.
After learning Gargish, Valkadesh was pleased to greet the False Prophet, insisting on using the hero's proper name. The Gargoyle told the Avatar that he believed the Book of Prophecies was wrong, and that the destruction of the Gargoyle race could yet be diverted without the death of the Avatar. Valkadesh continued that in the Gargoyle language sacrifice could mean of oneself, others, or objects of great value, and that by returning the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom to the Ethereal Void the Gargoyle race could be saved. Valkadesh directed the hero to first submit to Lord Draxinusom, so that passage through the Gargoyle Realm would be possible. After doing this, the Avatar should proceed to Naxatilor to learn how to return the Codex.[1]
