Transcript: Vigil

Vigil is a farmer in North Britanny during the time of Ultima V and a member of the Resistance.

Description[edit]

When the Avatar met her, Vigil spoke about how she'd been a warrior, before retiring to the peaceful life of a farmer, and that they'd learned much. She mentioned the Shadowlords as an afterthought but didn't go into details.[1]

Since the Avatar was told of her role in the local Resistance cell, the hero told her the password. Vigil remained mistrustful, and the Avatar couldn't give her ultimate proof. However, admitting so made Vigil impressed by such Honesty and she said that her friends Joshua, Leof, and Thentis have interesting information.

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Vigl could be met during the day on her farm in North Britanny. There she talked about the quality of the soil and weather near Castle Britannia. She also praised her farmhand Leof, and her companions Thentis and Joshua, saying Thentis was a kind, curious, and inquisitive man. Vigil also remarked that Leof was as tall as some trolls, and he was simple, but not daft. She told of how she inherited the farm from her parents, and than much of the food in Britannia originated in the Britannys. She also spoke briefly about Terbor, the innkeeper at Hotel Britanny, and how he had recently become a hard man. If the Avatar mentioned the resistance password 'DAWN', she told the hero to talk to Thentis about their meeting times.[2]

When the Avatar reached the well at midnight, the hero was inducted into the Britanny North Resistance branch by Vigil, who along with her companions, recalled the tale of the their encounter with the Shadowlords near Stonegate. They told the Avatar how they met Sir Sean of the Lycaeum on the shores of Lost Hope Bay. Sir Sean spoke of how he encountered the daemon Balinor guarding the entrance of Stonegate, and was unable to overcome the creature. Vigil and her companions sought to escort Sir Sean to Stonegate, but on the way were overcome by a feeling of darkness, and shortly after this met with Sutek the mage. Sutek was fleeing Stonegate, closely followed by the Shadowlords. Thentis, Leof, and Joshua chose to try to waylay the Shadowlords while the remaining adventurers fled, but were unsuccessful. The Shadowlords ignored the three men and attacked the fleeing group, with only Sutek, Sir Sean, and Vigil surviving the encounter. After this tale, Thentis interrupted Vigil to tell the Avatar that Sutek had had been in contact with him, and the mage had discovered how to slay the Shadowlords. Sutek asked for the Avatar to meet him on a small island to the south of New Magincia.[3][4][5]

After this tale, if the Avatar talked to Vigil's companions, they all told the hero that their leader had been shaken by her experience with the Shadowlords, and was no longer as active against the Oppression, although they all still trusted Vigil's abilities. The hero could choose to waylay this information to Vigil, inspiring her to take an active role against Blackthorn once again.

If the Avatar had agreed to deliver a shipment of Chamfort’s weapons to Vigil on the behest of Landon, she will thank the Avatar for contributing to the Resistance.[6][7]

If the Avatar joined the Oppression, the hero could report Vigil's Resistance activities to Maul, leading to the woman's disappearance.[8]
