This article is about a character from Ultima VII. For a character from Ultima IX, see Sir Robin.

Robin is a professional gambler who travels in the company of his bodyguards, Battles and Leavell. During Ultima VII, he could be found with his companions, stranded in New Magincia.

Description[edit]

The bastard son of an unnamed nobleman, Robin had learned to make his way in the world by playing games of chance - a career which has a knack for making one enemies. Desirous of protection, he hired on two bodyguards - Battles and Leavell - offering them a share of his profits should they agree to keep him out of harm's way.[1]

Sometime prior to the Avatar's arrival in Britannia, Robin had run afoul of the management at the House of Games in Buccaneer's Den, and had had to flee the island with his comrades. Unfortunately for the trio, the ship they were traveling on capsized in a storm before they could reach the Britannian mainland, and the gamester and his cohorts found themselves marooned in peaceful New Magincia.[2]

Unable to procure funds to pay the local shipwright, Russell, for a new vessel, Robin set his sights on the beautiful and naïve Constance, hatching a plan to seduce her and to eventually take her to Buccaneer's Den once he could secure passage there. He hoped afterward to sell her into prostitution and thus pay back his debts to Gordy of the House of Games. To this end, he stole a golden locket which the young woman's sweetheart, Henry, was to give her, although he would later misplace this token at the Modest Damsel.[3][4]

Should the Avatar encounter the trio, the hero could offer the use of a vessel to ferry the group back to Buccaneer's Den. Before he would trust the hero to sail with them, however, Robin would require that the Avatar recover the lost locket for him. Once the hero did this, their intentions for Constance would be revealed, and regardless of whether or not any agreements were made to participate in the trafficking, Robin and his hirelings would eventually attack their would-be benefactor. In that event, the gambler would likely have met his end at the hero's sword.[5]

Trivia[edit]

  • The ship which Robin and his comrades sailed upon was described as having been newly made and having just sailed from Minoc. Russell will reveal that it was made by Owen and that its design seemed remarkably unsound, giving further testament to the problem of Owen's unwarranted acclaim.[6][7]
