Sacrifice is one of the Eight Virtues of Britannia.
Description[edit]
Sacrifice, founded on the principles of Courage and Love, is the courage to give of oneself in the name of love. It is the placing of the interests of others and the ends of virtue over one's own well-being. Minoc, situated at the eastern shores of Lost Hope Bay, is the center for studying the Virtue of Sacrifice. The homeless of Britannia are welcomed in Minoc; here they find refuge in the Mission of the Helpless. The especially devoted tinkers sacrifice a a lot of time and effort for their work, but their devotion to this particular virtue is rewarded with equal improvements in their skills and physical powers.
The Shrine of Sacrifice is situated east of Minoc, in the middle of the Drylands in the dried-up Lake Generosity.
Sacrifice through the Ages[edit]
Various messages throughout the ages, given by the shrine or the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, show how Sacrifice does apply to the lives of people.
Ultima IV[edit]
Meditating at the Shrine of Sacrifice will give these insights:
- "To give thy last gold piece unto the needy shows good measure of self-sacrifice!"
- "For thee to flee and leave thy companions is a self-serving action to be avoided!"
- "To give of thy life's blood so that others may live is a virtue of great praise!"

Quest form the shrine: "'Tis now thy sacred Quest to go unto the Codex and learn the failing of unwilling Sacrifice!"
Answer from the Codex: "None live alone, save they who will not share their fortune with those around them."
Ultima VI[edit]
Wisdom of the shrine: "The universe is so vast and so ageless that the life of one man can only be justified by the measure of his sacrifice."
Blackthorn's Law[edit]
During Blackthorn's tyranny, Sacrifice was twisted and turned into a draconian law: "Thou shalt donate half of thy income to charity, or thou shalt have no income."
