Dungeon Doom is the most difficult dungeon in Ultima V, which can only be reached through the Underworld via Shame. It also is a huge maze, which only makes things worse. Before entering, you should read through Doom#Trivia, collect all the Crown Jewels plus the sandalwood box and destroy all the Shadowlords.

Level 1[edit]

Doom Level 1

When you enter the dungeon, you'll be surrounding by pink ethereal walls that can only be dispelled by the Sceptre of Lord British. The room has no exit ladder, so the only way to exit Doom is by casting Gate Travel, but if you've prepared properly before entering, you'll never need to exit.

If the Shadowlords are still alive, they will be waiting here to take back the sceptre (making progress impossible) and attack.

Dispel the walls on the west and take the ladder down (marked D on the inset maps).

Level 2[edit]

Doom Level 2

Take your first turn to the left (east) and go down the ladder (G).

Level 3[edit]

Doom Level 3

Head all the way southeast and search the eastern wall to reveal a hidden door. Go through, put on the Crown, and enter the room. Daemons will be waiting beyond an ethereal barrier you'll need to dispel. Do so and head down the ladder (K).

Levels 4 and 5[edit]

Doom Level 4
Doom Level 5

These two levels are interconnected; you'll need to go back and forth.

First, continue down from Level 4 to 5.

Head east until you see a hole in the ceiling (P); climb up.

Go south and down the first pit you see (R).

Head east until you reach the intersection. Ignore hole (T) in the ceiling, head north, and up the next hole in the ceiling (O).

Go east, then north, then search east to reveal a hidden pit (F). Take it down to find a ladder continuing on to Level 6.

Level 6[edit]

Doom Level 6

Proceed along the corridor until you reach a room full of sea monsters. Go south and down the ladder (X), just one level.

Levels 7 and 8[edit]

Doom Level 7
Doom Level 8

Don't continue down the ladder; instead, go north and into Room 14, which will be full of dragons, daemons and sand traps. The sand trap in the middle is concealing a ladder. Kill it and either take the ladder down into Room 11 (see below), or kill everything else in the room (including hidden wisps), leave and rest, and then return to go down the ladder ready for a fight.

Room 11 is full of sea serpents and dragons. Kill them and then shoot the trigger (marked "T1" on the map below). This will raise a bridge _and_ release eight mongbats. Kill or avoid them before exiting to the west. There won't be many more enemies after this, so this is a good time to spend any An Tyms you may still have.

After leaving this room, you'll find a ladder up (Z) into Room 9, full of mongbats and a reaper. Ignore the path beyond the poison field and instead push or attach the wall to the east of the grate and the next two triggers (see map below). This will open exits to the north and south; take either.

Search the end of the corridor before you step into it, and you'll find a hidden pit. Go down (to L or A) and up the ladder at the end of the hall (J or P). The bend in the corridor has a hidden pit trap; search for it and then walk past it. At the middle of the hallway beyond, search to reveal Pit I, and take it down.

You'll end up on an island in a Room 12, filled with sharks and wisps. The northern exit will close when you try to take it, but it will open a niche to the northeast that will trigger an exit east. (See map below.)

Take the ladder up (R), which will bring you straight into the final battle in Room 13. Do not step into the niche in the ethereal walls; this will fill your half of the room with lava. (See map.) Instead, dispel a tight path and kill the enemies as they attempt to squeeze through it.

Leave to the east and search to reveal the last hidden pit (S). Now is a good time to save the game, before descending this last pit to Lord British's prison. Walk everyone in front of the mirror, and then give Lord British his sandalwood box (say "yes") so that you can escape with the Orb of the Moons.</ref>
