Zair the Wise is an elderly man living in Paws during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
While he did not appear to have completed the quest of the Avatar himself, the wizened Zair nevertheless claimed to have come near to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom and would gladly speak to the Stranger as to his wonderment at the tome's boundless secrets. The aspirant hero could also learn from Romasco of Skara Brae that Zair knew of the word of passage necessary to enter the innermost chambers of the Abyss and should the adventurer inquire as to this, the sage would reveal that his brother, who lived somewhere beyond Lock Lake, knew more, as well as informing the Stranger of the further necessity of obtaining the three part key.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- In the Nintendo remake of Ultima IV (where most character names were omitted and dialogue was significantly modified), Zair can be identified with the ranger in Castle Britannia, who gives similar information. Actually, he is the only character in the remake who directs the Companions to Cove.[2]
