Transcript: Sir Adam

Sir Adam is an employee of The Oaken Oar in East Brittany during the events of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

Sir Adam told the Avatar that he had a plan for improving the speed of ships by using chemical propellant, which involved a highly flammable substance he derived from sulphurous ash, mandrake root, and gunpowder. Unfortunately, when Squire Jimmy got too close to his experiment with a Torch, it blew up in his face, singeing his eyebrows and clothes. He felt sure this would be a great breakthrough for Master Hawkins and his shipbuilding.[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Sir Adam referred to himself as an inventor, and told the Avatar how working for Master Hawkins to refine seagoing vessels was ideal for him, and that the shipwright has pocketed much coin due to his ideas. He felt that someday they would make a vessel as powerful as HMS Cape thanks to Flint’s forge, Master Hawkins’ plans, and Scotty's visionary ideas. He felt his newest idea, using chemical propulsion on ships, would revolutionize sailing, remarking how he got this idea when a powder keg exploded next to a bag of reagents, producing a controlled explosion.[2]

He told the Avatar that in his youth he and Scotty had been bosun mates, sailing under Windmire, and the two had gone off to Minoc to live. Now that he worked as an inventor, he liked to bounce his ideas off Flint, allowing him to sharpen his ideas since Flint disliked them all, saying Flint got especially annoyed when Milan also agreed with him. He remarked that Therid, Milan's son, was normally a good boy, except when he was around Squire Jimmy, wishing the Squire would learn from some of the mistake he made from being overeager.
