Flint is the blacksmith at The Oaken Oar of East Britanny during the events of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

When the Avatar talked with him, Flint showed a serious distrust of magic, complaining that magical stuff was more and more used in shipbuilding. He recounted how in his youth, ships were made from nothing but wood, but as he aged, more and more iron began to replace the wooden sailing ships of old, and he showed pride in these past accomplishments. Still, he bemoaned the fact that now that magic was beginning to be employed in shipbuilding, "no one knows what's goin' on."[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

A gruff man, Flint was reluctant to pull himself away from the forge to talk to the Avatar. He proudly told the hero that all of Master Hawkins’ ships were made from the finest wood, iron, and steel, and that there was no magic within them. He especially noted how there was some magic in Britain that had been turning the people there sour, which only built on his fear, saying how he saw a guard beating a beggar in the town of Compassion, but did not feel any regret until after he had left the city.[2]

Should the Avatar speak to Milan about her feelings for Flint,[3] she would mention her romantic interest in her friend. Should the Avatar pursue this topic with Flint, the two characters would start up a romantic interest, and Flint would provide the Avatar with a powerful set of armour in thanks.
