Sionnach [sha-nok] is a bard at Empath Abbey in Ultima VI. He sings of a variety of ships and the exploits of their crew.
Description[edit]
The Avatar found Sionnach to be a colorful, friendly bard who sang and played the drum. In his youth, he even knew Iolo, but the two had not met for many years. Sionnach was also well-read and admitted to the Avatar that he learned many of his songs from books at the Lycaeum. He even trained at the Conservatory in Britain along with Johann, Lazeena and Patrick.[1]
Sionnach told the Avatar tale of Young Keegan, and how he'd killed the eight-man pirate crew of the Bitter Kate. Claiming the ship his own, he'd christened it the Virtuous and sailed the Britannian seas doing right. The great ships was eventually lost in battle against the Barston Bay along the shores of Lock Lake. Sionnach would also play a battle summons on his drum for the hero, claiming the ancient Lord Fennian had devised a series of raps and knocks to be used by his armies.
The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

In The Ultima 6 Project, the remains of these two great ships can still be found in the swamps near Lock Lake. A number of ghosts still guarded the ship's treasure
Lore[edit]
“ | I hear tell that Sionnach, one of my fellow bards, is in the habit of meeting the widow Sylaina in the graveyard at midnight... I guess there’s a certain romance to it, if you go for that sort of thing. – from The Book of Prophecy (Ultima VI)

Trivia[edit]
- Sionnach is based upon an Amtgard player who assumed the persona of Sionnach O'Ros Sidh in the organization's former Grand Duchy of Barad Duin, where Ultima VI writer Dr. Cat and artist-writer Manda Dee (Penumbra) were also known to participate. In Amtgard, Sionnach served as champion to Barad Duin's earliest monarch, Duke Ahrmaand Seregon, before being crowned himself as the realm's first grand duke upon its elevation to the status of grand duchy.[2]
