Malik on the NES

Malik is a gypsy child living in Moonglow, and the son of Malifora, a former member of the Great Council.

Description[edit]

During Ultima V, Malik could refer the Avatar to his mother for her skills as a fortune teller, although he would ask three gold coins to tell the hero where they lived.

Spending most of his time playing games, he reported that he had once met Saul, a man who could procure the rare reagents, nightshade and mandrake. He also had had a brush with an aspiring pirate who had tried to make glass weapons.[1]

Forced to flee Britain with his mother Malifora, the former Great Council member, when the Oppression came to power, Malik could be found in Moonglow working small jobs and selling his mother's fine glassware. A bright young man, life in hiding had been hard for him, unable to share his secrets or be close with the other children of the town. Malik felt Moonglow was a pretty city, but the people there were too severe in their punishment of dishonesty, feeling the only person he could talk to was Siona the woodcutter. Malik was a fountain of knowledge regarding the local geography surrounding Verity Isle.[2]

If the Avatar asked Eb the busboy at the Wayfarer's Inn about fine glassware,[3] the hero would be directed to his best friend Malik, who revelaed Sven in Buccaneer's Den had once made truly legendary pieces.

If Malifora tasked the hero with finding what happened to her Crystal Tear,[4] Shalira would direct the hero to speak with Malik, saying he often saw the comings and goings at his mother's tent.[5] Malik admitted to the hero that he had stolen it to prove himself to some other boys in the town, and in the excitement of his triumph, he had dropped it off the Moonglow pier into the water, and had been unable to locate it. Malik pleaded with the Avatar to help him find the lost glassware.

The Avatar could find the Crystal Tear in a hawk's nest directly to the north of the Lycaeum. Upon returning the piece to Malifora, Malik would tell the hero that Saul in Skara Brae knew where to find nightshade and mandrake root in the wild.
