Frances is a character unique to the Super Nintendo-port of Ultima VII. She is the mayor of Paws, and claims to be the first woman in Britannia elected to such an office.
Description[edit]
Frances seemed exuberant about her recent appointment, and openly thanked the Fellowship for helping to secure her victory. In light of her appreciation for the Fellowship, a monument was to be erected in their honor, which had caused controversy in the small hamlet, as many citizens distrusted the group. Tensions had boiled over to such an extent that the plaque for the statue had been stolen by vandals.[1]
Frances would ask the Avatar to investigate the loss of the plague, and should the hero agree, she would reveal her own suspicions that Fuqua, the head of Paws' guards, was the culprit – owing to the fact that it had been he who was on guard when the theft occurred. The Avatar, after careful inquiries with the various townsfolk, could eventually reveal that it was Benjamin, Fuqua's son, who had done the deed and that the sentry had helped to cover for his child's misdeeds.[2][3] Once the plaque was returned to Samuel, the local Fellowship branch leader, Frances would offer the hero a reward for the service to the community, in the form of a healing bracelet.[4]
Trivia[edit]
- Frances' portrait is identical to that of Magenta from the PC version of Ultima VII.
- Frances' claim to be the first female mayor of Britannia runs contrary to earlier installments in the series, as Isabella of Minoc and Lenora of Yew are both shown holding such offices in Ultima VI and its SNES-port.
