Daem is the guildmaster at The Nemesis in Buccaneer's Den in Ultima V.
Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]
A diminutive man, Daem admitted he traded in information and served as an oddity in Buccaneer’s Den due to his stature, speech, and attire. He noted that he was far shorter that most men, and that he preferred a less flamboyant and more exacting speech and attire than his fellow compatriots of Buccaneer’s Den.[1]
The merchant admitted that The Guild did sell minor items like torches, and gems, but the most important trade was in information. Before trading with the Avatar, he ensured the hero knew that he could not guarantee the useful nature of all information provided, but that there would be no refunds if the information was not valuable. He also admitted he would hire the hero for missions to collect information he desired. Daem would sell information about Lord Dalgrin and his business associations throughout the land for 1000gp, the owners of the various Guild Shops in Britannia for 500gp, and the citizens of Buccaneer’s Den for 750gp.
Daem would pay the Avatar 200gp for discovering that Lord Tenneth of Minoc had fled to Cove after his ousting by Lady Guinere,[2][3] and would pay 400gp for providing the former password for the Oppression, “Maltari”, from Arkandor at the Lycaeum.[4] Daem would further reward the hero 800gp for discovering Sin’Vraal’s name[5] and 1600 gp for discovering the Word of Power from Goeth, Ignopia.[6] Finally, Daem would provide 5000 gp for confirming Hassad’s imprisonment in the Palace of Blackthorn.[7]
Daem would sell the Avatar Ignap’s Tome for 200gp, a treatise of magic which he stated was written around the time of Green Beard and Silver John. The hero could choose to return this tome to Enlor of Cove.[8] Daem further mentioned Alfred was kidnapped and sent to Waveguide by Bidney at the behest of Lord Dalgrin who provided subjects for Gregory’s experiments in exchange for leaf.
At the behest of Virden at The Sharper Mage, the Avatar could recover a package of reagents for the merchant in Lycaeum.[9]
