Boskin is a thief jailed by the Court of Justice in Yew in Ultima VI.
Description[edit]
Boskin was a liar and a cheat whom the Avatar met incarcerated in Yew. He had been jailed for stealing and hiding the rune of Justice from the former Lord Mayor of Yew's grave. He further tried to win sympathy from the Avatar by claiming that he was merely a poor farmer who only stole the rune to feed his family, until Lenora informed the Avatar the Boskin actually had no such relations.[1] The Avatar could convince Boskin to reveal the location of the rune by confronting Boskin with the truth about his family. Boskin then revealed that he had hidden the rune under a potted plant in The Slaughtered Lamb pub in Yew.[2]
The Ultima 6 Project[edit]
This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.
In The Ultima 6 Project, Boskin admitted that some of the story about his family was a lie, but that he had a wife Ibbie and daughter Jessa. When their farm was destroyed by a Gargoyle raid, he had asked Lenora for assistance feeding his family, but had been summarily rejected by the busy mayor. Forced to act through desperation, he dug up the grave of the former mayor of Yew, Lord Harmon, and stole the rune of Justice. During Boskin's incarceration, his friend Witton had been helping feed his family, but the poor farmer had only minimal resources to offer aid.
Despite Boskin's family situation, Lenora was unwilling to release Boskin even if he revealed the location of the rune. Accepting his imprisonment, Boskin pleaded with the Avatar to find assistance for Ibbie and Jessa. The Avatar would tell Riona the druidess about the thief's situation, and Riona admitted that she and the other druids had been neglectful in their duties towards the council, having left Lenora without assistance. Hoping to make amends, Riona agreed to review Boskin's case and provide assistance for his family. Overjoyed, Boskin told the hero that he had hidden the rune with his friend Witton before being jailed.
Lore[edit]
“ | She’s thrown poor Boskin into jail, and put Sinjen in the stocks. At least Boskin has a kind keeper — Pridgarm belongs out on a porch playing checkers somewhere, not running a prison. He lets most of his prisoners “escape,” and if Boskin’s crime weren’t so serious he’d have done the same. – from The Book of Prophecy (Ultima VI)

Trivia[edit]
- The player can also lie to Boskin, leading him to believe that he could be set free in exchange for revealing the rune’s whereabouts.
