Lord Aganar is the mayor of Moonglow in Ultima VI.

Description[edit]

Instantly recognizing the hero from a portrait that hung in Lord British’s castle, the Avatar found Aganar to be a noble man who was proud to administer Moonglow. Lord Aganar gladly told the Avatar about Moonglow and seemed quite knowledgeable about the Shrine of Honesty north on Dagger Isle. He further informed the hero that he had given the rune of Honesty to Penumbra’s former husband Beyvin for safekeeping. Oddly, he did not seem to know anything about Beyvin's recent demise, but seemed considerably more informed about the Blue Bottle Tavern, and was quick to recommend it to the Avatar.[1]

Runes of Virtue II[edit]

In Runes of Virtue II, Aganar was kidnapped by the dastardly Black Knight, and imprisoned within the depths of the Cavern of Deceit. Upon being rescued and returned to Moonglow, the mayor rewarded the hero with the Rune of Honesty.

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.

After learning of Beyvin's death in The Ultima 6 Project, Aganar briefly offered his condolences. Also, it fell to him to keep the rune after Beyvin's death, so it was possible to return it to him and later ask to borrow it, if it was needed again.

Aganar was also in contact with the Ancient Illuminated Seers of the Moonstone, and if the Avatar learned about them from Sir Cabirus at Serpent's Hold, Aganar could be questioned about the group. The mayor said that they were an ancient group of mages who helped direct studies in the ancient intricacies of spellcasting, but that they highly valued their anonymity. Aganar would direct the Avatar towards Dargoth near the Lycaeum for further questions.

Lore[edit]

Aganar, the so-called mayor of Moonglow, hasn't even noticed Beyvin is dead yet. He pretty much lets the town take care of itself, which suits me fine, and he's a regular at the tavern, too.

Trivia[edit]

  • Aganar is based upon a real-world live-action roleplaying (LARP) player who assumed the persona of Count Sir Aganar Ky'Slaron within Amtgard, an international fantasy combat organization.
  • He belonged to the organization's former Austin, Texas chapter, the Grand Duchy of Barad Duin. This is the same chapter where Ultima VI writer Dr. Cat and artist-writer Manda Dee (Penumbra) participated; much like Richard Garriott did with the Society for Creative Anachronism, they portrayed several of their fellow local LARPers as in-game characters.
  • Within Amtgard lore, Aganar served as regent to monarch Sir Nithanalorn Draconis Dignitatis. He later became king himself some years after the Barad Duin realm broke away from Amtgard to form an offshoot organization, the High Fantasy Society.[2][3]
