The Stygian Abyss is the newest and worst dungeon to be found in the Britannia of Ultima Online, located on the Isle of Fire.

Description

This dungeon came into being due to the uphevals at the beginning of Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss and the entrance is marked by a huge volcano that had formed after serious changes in Britannia. Reaching the entrance already is difficult, only possible by ship or teleportation. Once inside, one has to first solve a complicated puzzle if wanting to gain access to the lower level of the dungeon.

The lower level is hell itself, filled with countless monsters, including the dangerous Slasher of Veils and filled with deadly lava streams. If one manages to survive these horrors, an entrance to the Tomb of Kings is found on the other side, leading to the world of Ter Mur.

Consequently, entering from Ter Mur, one has to go the opposite way.

Trivia

• The upper level of the Abyss is modeled after the first level of Ultima Underworld. Deeper into the dungeon are several more shout-outs like the Silver Sapling, the Chamber of Virtue and the Slasher of Veils.

• Apart from teleporting, this is the only way to enter Ter Mur.
