Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge
Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge (2002) was the first of the two "darker" Ultima Online MMORPG expansions (the second being Ultima Online: Age of Shadows).
Gameplay[edit]
The game features creatures designed by Todd McFarlane (creator of the Spawn comics), originally intended for the cancelled Ultima Online 2. It also added new music in the MP3 format, as opposed to Ultima Online’s original MIDI music, some of it borrowed from Ultima IX. The story is about the return of Lord Blackthorn, the corrupt noble who usurped the throne of Lord British in Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny.
Included with the Game[edit]
Lord Blackthorn’s Revenge came with the following items:
- Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn’s Revenge play guide
- Ilshenar Map (on the back of the combined Britannia/Lost Lands map) in its updated form
- Lord Blackthorn’s Revenge comic book drawn by McFarlane
Trivia[edit]
- The game box art is drawn like a cartoon, something avoided on other boxes. This may be related to McFarlane's involvement.
- Unusual for Ultima Online, the first U.S. edition came with a trinket in form of a Lord Blackthorn action figure.
- There are two different versions of the cover flap. In the first version, the Ultima Online 2 action figures are advertised, while in the second version (shown here) the comic book coming with the box is featured.
- Not only are the box covers of the Japanese and Korean versions totally different from the original, Japan also got several variant covers about the trinity of fighter, mage and tinker (here blacksmith).
