The Cat's Lair is a well known drinking establishment in the village of Paws. This cozy little place appeared at the mid-to-late Age of Enlightenment in Ultima V and Ultima VI.

Description

This cozy little tavern stood on the King's Way, equidistant between Britain and Trinsic, well traveled by all kind of different customers, from gypsies to the locals, who came to drink and for one of its main features: the finest mutton in the kingdom of Britannia. Twice it changed its position, first during the reign of Lord Blackthorn and later during the Gargoyle War; from next to the The Smugglers' Inn to an area near the buildings of the weaver and the seamstress. Dr. Cat, the owner of this tavern, worked behind the bar, offering the usual services of his establishment.

History

While the once-noble Lord Blackthorn, seduced by the power of the Shadowlords, ruled the lands of Britannia with a draconian regime, Dr. Cat, a noted gamester and felinophile, established this warm, friendly place along the street called the “King’s Way”. As an admirable host, he worked behind the bar, offering the usual services of his establishment and began to serve one of its main features: the finest mutton in the kingdom of Britannia.

Two decades later as the Gargoyle War raged the lands of Britannia, Dr. Cat, surrounded by his feline companions, still owned the place. During this period, the usual patrons of this comfortable tavern, were the locals, Mortude who always played the game of Flippits with his friend Thindle and the bard Patrick. This also began to be one of the favorite locations for the gypsy seer Taynith, in the company of Zoltan’s band of gypsies. All this ended when the tavern disappeared and was replaced by the tavern and inn, The Salty Dog in the Age of Armageddon.
