Standarr is a blacksmith and Knight, who may be found in Serpent Isle’s Monitor. He appears in Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

Standarr was a Knight of the Monitor's Leopard Command and served as the city's blacksmith, operating a weapons and armour shop that was adjoined to his living quarters on Pikemans' Road. An honorable man eager to pursue the glories of Knighthood, his work at the forge left him strong of body, and being bold, he was known to venture into the depths of the Furnace on various Quests of Courage.[1] His strength, however, had its limits, and during Batlin and Gwenno’s travels in Monitor, he chanced to get into an altercation with the mercenary Brunt, who bested him on the List Field through sheer force of muscle.[2]

In the days before the Avatar's landing on Serpent Isle, Standarr was approached by Lord Marsten and tasked with helping to develop a strange new weapon for use in the city's perpetual war with the Goblins. The project was a secret one, and the weapon never saw use in battle, having been hidden by Marsten and Spektor in a secret cache in the mountains where only Cantra’s unlucky father chanced to discover it. Standarr, who did not know the weapon's location himself, would reveal his involvement in the project to the Avatar should the hero bring to light Marsten and Spektor's treason, cautioning the hero to be on the lookout for its hiding place.[3]

Standarr eventually perished alongside most of the denizens of Monitor, falling victim to the invading army of Goblins and monsters led by the Bane of Wantonness while it possessed Dupre’s body.

Trivia[edit]

  • In addition to the arms and armour he publicly displays in his shop, Standarr keeps several pieces of chainmail in the two locked chests within his private quarters. 2 loose monetari may also be found among his possessions.
  • Should the Avatar show Harnna the pumice stone that a teleport storm exchanged for the hero's spellbook, she will recommend consulting Krayg, on account of his frequent explorations of the local wilderness.[5] If presented with the stone, Krayg will recognize its volcanic origins and will mention Standarr's adventures in Furnace.[6] Should the Avatar ask Standarr about these exploits, he will mention that a fellow pikeman known as Pendar recently braved the fiery dungeon with a group of explorers searching for treasure and had not returned, and the hero can seek to investigate what has become of the ill-fated party.[7]
  • Standarr is the craftsman responsible for making the ceremonial armour that was swapped for the Avatar's magical breastplate by a teleport storm. It was a special piece commissioned by Kylista, the Fawnese Priestess of Beauty.[8]
  • Stealing from his shop is impossible. There is a program function in place which will always call the guards, regardless if there are witnesses, or not.
