Monetari are the standard currency of the city Monitor on the Serpent Isle.

Description[edit]

MonetariSI.PNG

Monetari are accepted only in Monitor and nowhere else, as the Serpent Isle lacks a central government and thus a single currency as well. Monetari are in many aspects like regular gold coins – a no-frills approach to a currency running along with the mentality of the inhabitants – but they are much thicker and therefore a good bit more valuable. This also makes them well sought-after as a currency. Monetari were the currency the pikemen in the Bull Tower preferred; however, they did always raise their prices in a display of greed, meaning that only a gold bar finally satisfied them.

It is somewhat difficult to determine the exact value of a monetari, but plate armour costs 350 monetari, while ale costs 3 monetari.

Exchange Rates[edit]

Main article: Serpent Isle exchange rates

On Serpent Isle, the exchange rates are as follows:

1 monetari = 2 gold coins
1 monetari = 4 filari
1 monetari = 3 guilders

Lore[edit]

Although I have procrastinated much in preparing this section, hoping to record further development, it seems that our commerce system evolved and stabilized quickly. Our resources show no sign of depletion lo these two centuries. I had hoped to abandon the ridiculous trappings of coinage that were common in Sosaria, but so many others found barter cumbersome. Therefore, I must resign myself to accepting a currency-based system. Regardless, let me now discuss the practitioners of this form of exchange.

The coin used by the residents of Monitor is the Monetari.

Trivia[edit]

  • Due to their worth, using the spell False Coin on a stack of monetari is the most cost-efficient way to forge money.
  • Monatari are important, since most of the good non-magical equipment and all of the training have to be paid with it.
