Stamina
Stamina is an attribute that determines a character’s resilience to damage sustained in combat.
The Attribute[edit]
Stamina is only used in Ultima I and Ultima II, after which it is no longer a character attribute in the series. In general, Stamina determines how much damage the Stranger suffers after being hit. Both games have unique rules regarding how this attribute functions.
Ultima I[edit]
Stamina determines defense against attacks, modified further by armour worn. Every two points of Stamina reduce the accuracy of enemy attacks by 1%. Since the maximum for the attribute is 99, this comes to about 49% reduced enemy accuracy. Stamina is raised by visiting the Grave of the Lost Soul. This increase is only granted on the first visit to the signpost, or after visiting other signposts. Another way to increase Stamina is by throwing money into certain pools found in castles; however, the possibility of success, as well as which stat is raised, is random.
Maximum Stamina is 99.
Ultima II[edit]
Stamina determines the portion of damage suffered that is absorbed (whereas armor determines evasion rate). Every two points of Stamina reduces the effectiveness of enemy attacks by 1%, meaning up to 49% of an enemy hit can be negated with the stat at the maximum. The stat can be raised by bribing the Clerk in the Hotel California in New San Antonio. The Ultima II Upgrade Patch is required so that the number does not roll over.
Maximum Stamina is 99.
