Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Kitiara was an expressive woman who proudly told the hero that she had managed the Buccaneer’s Booty for many years, and intended to for many years yet. The merchant claimed to have all the goods of death and destruction a pirate could ever need, and she knew they were good because she had plied the trade herself before becoming a merchant.[1]

Kitiara jokingly suggested there were no pirates on the island, only honest merchants, but admitted things had gotten better now that Blackthorn was concentrating his ships down south at Serpent's Hold after sinking their fleet. Jones at The Rusty Bucket was turning out ships at top speed to replace the ones Blackthorn had sunk, and Thorkin was kept busy with constant metalwork. She spoke highly of her friend Thorkin, saying he was a good man who had worked with her for a number of years and did good work, and felt Jones was an angry old man, but did good work.

The merchant felt the pirates had been hard up recently because the armies had always had their hands full dealing with the many monsters that roamed Britannia. Now that the dungeons were closed up, the armies were focusing on cleaning up piracy. Kitiara on the other hand felt the armies should be dealing with cleaning up the Underworld, and discovering why recently whirlpools had been increasing in numbers, disrupting the shipping lines.

The Avatar could discover that Thorkin had secretly been harboring attraction for Kitiara for many years, and with the help of the Ancient Mariner could be convinced to overcome his shyness and express his romantic interest in the merchant.[2][3]
