The Ancient Mariner watched the seas from Buccaneer's Den in Ultima V: Lazarus.

Perched atop the peak of Buccaneer's Den, the Ancient Mariner watched the comings and going of the men of the ocean, doing what she could to protect the sailors from coming to harm despite the fear and hate her mysterious nature inspired amongst them. She felt it odd that the sailors sought to understand the sea, but few ever came to speak to her, yet she could answer so many of their questions.

She especially worried about Thorkin, who directly feared her powers and the sea itself. She hoped to some day offer him an understanding of the oceans so he would no longer fear. The Avatar could show her the iron rose which the hero had purchased from the fearful blacksmith, and the Ancient Mariner would breathe life into it. The Ancient Mariner explained that the rose was meant as a gift for Kitiara, and asked the hero to return it to Thorkin so he could show his love for the woman.
