Ultima VII Part Two

Groat was a Serpent Islander and Monitorian pikeman who died immediately before the events of Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

Groat was a member of a patrol at Fawn Tower that had been under the leadership of Monitor's Knight Champion, Astrid. Following the sudden goblin ambush that saw Astrid's defeat and eventual death, Groat -along with Templar- had been one of the only knights to survive the attack. His wounds, however, proved to be too much for him, and he expired shortly after reinforcements arrived in an attempt to rescue the doomed patrol.

During Groat's funeral ceremony, the Avatar's companion Iolo had the supreme misfortune to find himself deposited atop the cremator being used to process the pikeman's remains, having been caught in a teleport storm. Lord Marsten, taking the man to be an irreverent enchanter, had Iolo jailed as a result of the incident, and it would fall to the Avatar to eventually secure the archer's freedom.[1][2]

Trivia[edit]

  • Groat's epitaph reads "No knight swifter than he."
  • Groat is one of the few Monitorian knights whose Command is unknown, although it would make sense for him to belong to the Bear Command, given their control of Fawn Tower and the fact that both Astrid and Templar are of that faction.
