Francesca is a young stablehand working in Paws during Ultima IV.
Description[edit]
Being described as a tough girl, Francesca would be impressed with the Stranger after having dispatched the hostile bull, Ol' Red Eye, which dwelt in the pens of the Pawsian stables. She would caution the hero against horse theft, and upon ascertaining that the Stranger did not intend to steal, she would mention Smith the Horse, and would explain that he had the power of speech.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- When the Japanese developers ported Ultima IV to the Famicom/NES, Francesca's name was deemed too complicated (in Japanese it becomes something like "Fu-ra-nu-chae-su-ka"), therefore it was changed to Teresa. They both are Italian female names, but the latter is easier to pronounce for a Japanese audience. Later, when the game was localized in English, the new name stayed.
- In the NES-port, Smith the Horse was reverted to a normal horse, therefore Francesca-Teresa's dialogue was completely changed. Now, she would tell the Stranger of the mysterious man in black who had knowledge of the Tremor spell, mentioning that he had been in the area recently hunting for blood moss.[2]
