Essian is an orphaned child in Yew in The Ultima 6 Project.

Essian became orphaned when his druid parents were killed at the Shrine of Justice during the Gargoyle invasion. Mayor Lenora, not seeing it fit to have an orphaned child on the streets of Yew, had incarcerated the young boy in the Yew prison for his own protection until he was adopted. Essian felt that life in the prison was tolerable, and that he would have been scared living in his old family home alone. The jail keeper Pridgarm had been kind to him, ensuring he had enough to eat and sometimes brought sweets. He did miss playing with his friend Jessa, telling the hero he would someday marry Boskin's daughter. While in jail he fast became friends with the shipbuilder Strom, who had been jailed after one of his ships were lost with all hands on deck.
After the Avatar helped teach Lenora about true Justice, Essian was adopted by Strom and allowed to live with the now freed shipbuilder. He also returned to spending his free time playing with Jessa in the mornings, and learning from Taliesin about druidic tradition in the evenings. He even noted that Lenora's actions may have saved his life, for his family home was also burnt down during the alleged Gargoyle invasion of Yew.
