Edwin the Red is a mage at Windemere in Ultima V: Lazarus.
Originally hailing from the Lycaeum, Edwin had been banned from that institution of learning when it was revealed his primary area of interest was the dark arts. Since that time, he'd joined the Oppression, legitimately believing his powers were helping Britannia by righting the wrongs of the land, although, he did admit some mistakes had been made. Deluded into believing his master Elistaria loved him, Edwin hoped to rise in power until he eventually ruled Windemere, with the dark sorceress serving at his side.[1]
Edwin's preferred area of study was the binding of daemons, believing them to be powerful creatures who would well serve the magician who summoned them to this plane. Still, he warned the hero that a bound daemon would constantly rebel against its master, and if freed, would tear that person from limb to limb. Upon gaining its freedom, that daemon would then wander Britannia commiting acts of evil until slain.
Constantly at odds with his fellow student Alonda, he frequently berated the woman for her physical appearance. Pwyll personally found their constant bickering unnerving, and chose not to associate with the crimson mage, who found Pwyll to be of unimportance anyway.
If asked about Alonda while alone, he would suggest she was actually half-orc, like the cook Gallrot who served at the Palace of Blackthorn.
