D'Rel is a pirate serving a life term in the Yewish High Court's prison for tax evasion in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
Originally hailing from Buccaneer's Den, D'Rel would attempt to explain the particulars of his prior profession as "privateering" to the Avatar, if asked. With some probing, the former sailor would reveal his troubles with the Britannian Tax Council to the hero. Disdainful of Sir Jeff and his corrupt assistant Goth, the cynical pirate would bitterly complain about the unjust state which had handed him a life sentence for failure to surrender his income to the Britannian government.[1]
D'Rel also had some prior knowledge of infamous murderer, Hook, whom the Avatar was pursuing in the course. While D'Rel had little to say regarding Hook, save that he traveled in the company of Forskis, the grizzled convict appeared to be on bad terms with the assassin, as he implied that the hero ought greet him with violence.[2]
Trivia[edit]
- In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, D'Rel is a friend of Hooks, rather than bearing him any ill will. He would reveal to the Avatar, if asked, that the assassin worked with a gargoyle named Forskis, and that he operated out of Buccaneer's Den.[3]
