Description[edit]
A marvel of engineering, the Mines of Morina were in the midst of being excavated by human explorers at the time of Exodus' attack. Home to seemingly endless corridors and great caches of gold, the mines offered handsome rewards to adventurers intrepid enough to seize – and those daring enough to descend directly to its bottommost level could reap a quick windfall should they be prepared to fight the monsters lurking in such depths. In addition to material wealth, the mines also were home to brands which would bestow the marks of Fire and of Kings on the flesh of those willing to accept the pain of receiving them.
Lore[edit]
“ | Surely these mines are the most extraordinary feat of excavation known to sentient beings. Bizarre formations arise as near the surface as the second level, where seemingly endless corridors exist. I noted with great care the formation on thy map. Many of the lower levels contain similar illusions. Rumour is that a careful search of these ruins, abandoned at the invasion of Evil soon after Exodus began his reign of terror, will lead to great reward. – from Secrets of Sosaria (Ultima III)

Trivia[edit]
- This dungeon likely takes its name from the Mines of Moria, a location featured in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Tolkien, in turn, is said to have based his own mines on the Biblical mount of Moriah, which was the supposed site of the Binding of Isaac.
- In the Nintendo-port Ultima III, the Mines of Morina are known as the "Cave of Madness."[1]
