Candice is the curator of Britain's Royal Museum in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
Should the Avatar speak to the youthful Candice during her hours tending to the museum, the well-informed curator would explain the various displays present at the institution, describing excitedly the new exhibition featuring items related to the Avatar and discussing such artifacts as the Virtue Stones and their relation to the Mark and Recall spells.[1] She would also speak of her dedication to the Fellowship, if asked, and would going on to talk about how it had improved her life and how she hope some day to find her "inner voice" with the organization's help.[2]
While talking about her devotion to the philosophical group, however, Candice would let slip that she had found romance among its membership - a fact which obviously embarrassed her. If pressed about this secretive relationship, the woman would grow silent, and ask the hero to forget what she had said. Careful investigation of Candice's movements after Fellowship meetings, however, would catch her in a adulterous tryst with Britain's mayor, Patterson,[3] and should the Avatar piece together the word's of Patterson's former political rival, Brownie, the hero could quickly deduce that the affair had been ongoing for years.[4]
If the Avatar chose, Patterson could be confronted about his infidelity, after which the shamed man would agree to cease seeing Candice, eventually coming to reconcile with his wife, Judith.[5] It is unknown, however, what reaction Candice ultimately had to her lover's reformation, or how she handled his death soon afterward during the Guardian's assault on Castle Britannia in Ultima Underworld II.
Trivia[edit]
- Candice will mention that the museum carries artwork from such masters as Watson (writer-designer John Watson); Richard Fox (a painter commissioned to produce a portrait of series creator Richard Garriott, and who is paid tribute Ultima VI as Captain Fox); Randi Frank (lead writer Raymond Benson's wife and inspiration for Miranda); Glen Johnson (artist for Ultima VI and Ultima VII, as well as the inspiration for Glenno); and Denis Loubet (veteran Ultima artist who produced the cover art for most installments).[6]
- A modification for the Exult utility for Ultima VII allows the Avatar to undertake a quest to restore the Rune of Honor to Trinsic. In this new quest, Candice is an important character, as she will only agree to return the rune if given a specially made duplicate.
