This article is about a character from Ultima VI. For the Ultima VII character who is his great grandson, see Budo (U7).
Budo is the provisioner of Buccaneer's Den in Ultima VI.
Description[edit]
Budo pretended to be a carefree, bumbling man who was somewhat less than lucid until the Avatar mentioned the Guild of Thieves to him. The shrewd provisioner immediately revealed himself as the leader of the Guild of Thieves, and warned the Avatar of the fatal consequences of betraying their organization. He told the Avatar that in order to join the Guild of Thieves, he had to liberate a thief's belt from Phoenix, a thief who was hiding in the Britain's sewers, suggesting this should be done through non-fatal means as corpses tended to raise questions. When the Avatar returned with the belt, Budo inducted the Avatar as a member of the guild.[1]
Runes of Virtue II[edit]
In Runes of Virtue II, Budo was willing to sell the hero a special pair of dragonskin boots which would offer the wearer protection from even the most fiery lava. The hero could purchase them from his store in Buccaneer's Den for fifty gold pieces.
The Ultima 6 Project[edit]
This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.
In The Ultima 6 Project, Budo initially denied knowledge of Sadon, the perspective member of the Guild of Thieves who killed Adan in Despise. Once per day, he was also willing to trade the Avatar honey for three lockpicks. Budo told the Avatar that Phoenix had never been the most stable of Thieves Guild members, but after breaking into the Castle Britannia treasure room she had become even more deranged. She now lived in the sewers with an arsenal of weapons, ready to strike out at anyone who approached her. After retrieving Phoenix's belt, Budo admitted to knowing Sadon, cursing the man as a fool who had not shown enough discretion for being a thief, thus got himself killed.
After speaking with Sir Simon about Beh Lem's visit to Serpent's Hold, Budo would tell the Avatar about his unusual encounter with the hooded stranger. Budo told the hero how a man a foot taller than average and three times as wide with a deep low growling voice and bright red skin had come to Buccaneer's Den asking about pirates, specifically those from HMS Empire. Budo denied knowledge of the subject, and the stranger had then gone off to the Lycaeum to try to learn more.
Lore[edit]
“ | Though hardly the notorious den of pirates and thieves it once was, there are still some suspicious goings on in Buccaneer's Den. Of course, if Budo were to be giving discounts to members of a certain guild, such as one Homer might belong to, I wouldn't know a thing about it. – from The Book of Prophecy (Ultima VI)
