Phoenix is a thief living in the sewers beneath Castle Britannia in Ultima VI.
Description[edit]
Former member of the ship the Black Thechu, Phoenix had joined the Guild of Thieves, and marked her territory beneath Castle Britannia. She made her living stealing from the unsuspecting citizens above. Phoenix's growing greed and instability had forced Budo, the leader of the guild, to decide it was time for the two to part ways, so he enlisted the Avatar’s help to steal her membership belt.
The Avatar met her deep within the Britain sewers, where she bragged about 'liberating' possessions from the wealthier citizens of Britain. She felt this was an honorable possession as any other. Her former ship had broken its moorings one evening and sailed off the edge of the world. She wished to have been aboard the vessel, so she could sail amongst the stars. She was unwilling to give up her belt, and warned the hero about touching any of her acquisitions.[1]
She was well armed with magic armour and glass swords, so the Avatar had come up with a creative way of defeating her or stealing her belt.
The Ultima 6 Project[edit]
This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.
In The Ultima 6 Project, Budo told the hero that Phoenix had broken into the Castle Britannia treasury to steal its weapons and armour. He felt she had become too unstable, and had to be removed from the Guild of Thieves.
Lore[edit]
“ | A lady named Phoenix lives down on the third level as well. She's a fine figure of a woman, and got a pretty nice place set up down there. A bit too aloof for my tastes, though. Perhaps it has to do with the belt I saw her wearing. "Outsiders" aren't supposed to know, but I recognize the sign of membership in the thieves guild when I see it. I left her boudoir in rather a hurry after she tried to part my hair with a dagger. It'd serve her right if you were to steal back some of those fancy things from her. She had some nice looking treasure stored out behind her house. – from The Book of Prophecy (Ultima VI)

Trivia[edit]
- In the C64-port of Ultima VI, her belt is simply hidden under some flowers in her house.
