Captain Blyth is the shipwright of Minoc during the time of Ultima V.

Description[edit]

Like all merchants, he had little dialogue, although others have a lot to say about him. Windmire mentions that Blyth is a cruel man. Fenelon agrees with this assessment, and is said to have enslaved Fenelon and Rew.[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Captain Blyth told the hero that he was the sole supplier of ships for Blackthorn’s Oppression, and that he would not be able supply a vessel to the hero for at least a year due to his busy construction schedule. He guaranteed the hero that all of his ships were of the finest construction and would survive the strongest storm, which is why Blackthorn put so much faith in his work. The Captain also guaranteed the quality of his sails, saying that they were sewn by Rew and Fenelon, two laborers personally supplied by the new regent.[2]

Captain Blyth admitted he had little love for Fenelon, but the man was good with a needle and thread. He further claimed that Rew stayed with him for her own protection, for it would be dangerous for the young girl to stay at the disease-ridden Poor House with her mother Fiona, claiming Fiona ensured that every mouth in the Poor House was filled at the expense of her own daughter.

The Captain denied any knowledge of Delwyn’s rumor of keeping manacles for prisoners.[3] The Avatar could choose to free Rew from Captain Blyth's imprisonment, and allow the little girl to flee Minoc with her mother.[4][5]

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

However, as shown in The Ultima 6 Project, his nastiness gives him a bad end, as was read in one of the books found in the city.

After the fall of the Oppression, he had lost his legal base of operations but tried to bully the people of Minoc into submission. However a flaming appeal to the people by Fenelon broke the spell and everyone despised Blyth from then on. The slaver from that moment on became a pariah in Minoc. Blyth tried to get revenge on Fenelon by ambushing him, only to get beaten bloody and dragged over the stairs of the lighthouse by the man.

In the end, he left Minoc (or better, fled) and went with pirates. He tried to cheat them, but ended up becoming the personal slave of Captain Hawkins.
