Ariana is a young girl training at the Conservatory in Britain in Ultima VI.

Description[edit]

The daughter of Anya and Matt, the proprietors of the Blue Boar Tavern, Ariana had been training as a bard since she was three years old. When the Avatar spoke with Kenneth, he described the girl as a talented young bard who required little guidance. Kenneth or his wife, Nan, would reveal that Ariana had been entrusted with the rune of Compassion.[1] Ariana would give the rune to the Avatar if requested, but only after the hero convinced the young girl of the importance of the quest. She still further required that the Champion of Virtue obtain permission from her mother before relinquishing the stone. The young girl also possessed the mantra of Compassion, but was uncertain of its exact pronunciation.[2]

Nastassia, two hundred years later in Ultima VII, revealed that Ariana was her great-great-grandmother and the first in a long line of keepers of the Shrine of Compassion.[3]

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.

In The Ultima 6 Project, Ariana told the hero that she enjoyed singing and playing the harpsichord, but couldn't understand why Kenneth made her read so many books and learn other instruments too.

The hero could return later and tell the young girl about what adventures had transpired, choosing to tell either a clean version or one with all the gory details. Also, it was possible to return the rune and later borrow it again, if the need would arise to use the corresponding shrine.

Runes of Virtue[edit]

In Runes of Virtue, Ariana could be found within the Cavern of Injustice, where she directed the hero to find a set of magic panpipes that would put monsters to sleep. Later, in Runes of Virtue II, Ariana could be found in a playground in Britain, where she would be most grateful for the return of her uncle Tholden from the clutches of the Black Knight.
