The house in Ultima IX

The Avatar’s house is the dwelling of the Avatar on Earth.

Description[edit]

It is never specified where exactly the house of the Avatar is located, although there are hints that it is somewhere in North America. It is known that the circle of stones where the moongate to Britannia appears nearby. Until Ultima IX, where the player has the ability to explore a 3D model of the house, only parts of a few rooms were visible.

History[edit]

The house was first seen in Ultima V. At the beginning of the journey, the Avatar's bedroom was seen. After the hero's return, it was discovered that burglars had broken in during the adventure and stolen the TV set, stereo and living room furniture. The house was next seen at the start of Ultima VI, where the Avatar was watching TV in the living room, before the lightning at the circle of stones caused the hero to investigate. In Martian Dreams the Avatar was at home and met wit Dr. Spector, when suddenly Chsheket arrived and caused the two to go on the adventure in the past of 1895.

At the beginning of the Age of Armageddon in Ultima VII the Avatar had an encounter with the Guardian on the computer, and left the house to check the circle of stones. The house was seen one last time in Ultima IX, and this time it and its surroundings could be explored before leaving for Britannia.

Trivia[edit]

  • The living room seen in Ultima VI and Martian Dreams is the same. In it the TV and stereo is located left of the door and a window, while the computer desk is located just right from the door in front of a window. Since no window is visible behind the computer in Ultima VII, it means the the computer must have changed position.
  • Starting with Ultima VI and continued in Martian Dreams, Ultima VII and Ultima IX, the house always contains call-backs to previous games.
