Ivar is a traveling tinker in Cove in Ultima V: Lazarus.

Ivar told the Avatar that he was a tinker by trade, claimed to have perfected his skill in Minoc, where his talents were much renowned. He claimed to have been traveling to to set up business in Britain as a clockmaker when he was waylaid by bandits. Unable to overcome them, he had fled into the mountains, and eventually arrived in Cove, where he had been healing and recuperating from his ordeal. [1]

Ivar seemed apprehensive when talking about Vortigyrn, and suggested the Avatar watch him to observe his habits. He spoke well of Jessica, who healed him after his ordeal, and of Carolyn at The Candlelight Inn. He had only a fleeting knowledge of Ava, Leona, and Enlor.

After defeating Stoneflank, Carolyn mentioned that Ivar had been unable to fix her stove[2], and if questioned on this, Ivar became extremely defensive, only saying that he had repeatedly explained to the innkeeper that he hadn't the necessary parts for the job, but that Carolyn hadn't understood.

If the Avatar freed Vortigyrn from the daemon Sarkael[3][4], Vortigyrn would admit that he knew of Ivar's previous identity as Lord Tenneth, the mayor of Minoc. Ivar told the hero how despite being married and happy he had started an affair with Guinere, who immediately began to blackmail the mayor for her silence, constantly ratcheting up the price. Eventually, Ivar found a number of other high-ranking members of Minoc who were also being blackmailed, and they agreed to arrange an accident for the devious woman. For many years they thought the woman dead, but Blackthorn had rescued her from this fate, and when Guinere returned to Minoc she was captain of Blackthorn's militia. Ivar was given the choice to leave Minoc or be exposed, and he had chosen to willing leave. Despite this choice, his wife was still alerted to Ivar's secret and took her life out of shame. When finally discovered by the Avatar, he admitted that he despised Blackthorn's regime, and wished to fight against it, and would submit himself to Lord British's justice when the king returned. If the Avatar rejected this offer, Ivar would immediately attack the Avatar.

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

This is an Ultima 6 Project-related NPC article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.

In The Ultima 6 Project, a tombstone in Cove reads, "Here Lord Tenneth rests at last - Redeemed, the misdeeds of his past."

For the German version of the game, the text was deliberately modified to be a tad more revealing, reading: "Hier fand Lord Tenneth das letzte Bett - Macht seine Gräueltaten endlich wett. - Iwoh? Ivar!"

Back translating this to English it is something along the lines of "Here Lord Tenneth founds his last bed - Paying the due of his past misdeeds at last. - Not Really? Ivar!" (play on words is lost in translation)
