Description: temple caretaker

During the events of Ultima V, Leona is one of the two sisters who care for the Temple of the Virtues in Cove.

Description[edit]

Her sister Ava, if asked about the Shard of Falsehood, directed the Avatar to ask Leona about her "vision". This vision provided directions on how to get to the Shard of Falsehood from the Underworld exit of Dungeon Deceit: first southwest across many tall peaks to a system of caverns, then continuing southwest until turning northwest at "a major intersection", "soon branching northeast". A long journey northward, then the passage turns west. Then rocky hills to the southwest, then to the northwest. Over a lake, past a massive series of falls, to a bigger lake. On the bigger lake is an island where the Shard of Falsehood lies.[1]

Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Leona is blessed with the uncanny ability to see the present with clarity, and is highly acclaimed amongst the Mystics of Cove. In her youth, Leona, her younger sister Ava, and an unnamed eldest sister were left at the steps of the Temple of Virtue, and had refused to be removed from its grounds. The girls grew up at the Temple, and Leona helped care for the Temple along with her sisters, keeping the grounds, and seeking donations for the upkeep of the Temple, so that seekers from across Britannia can come to the grounds and meditate upon the Virtues.[2]

Leona was able to describe the present in great deal, speaking highly of Carolyn at The Candlelight Inn, Jessica, and Enlor. She reported having a vision of a shadowy figure with flaming eyes which could not be distinguished when she met Vortigyrn at the Temple, and felt that Ivar was a man who suffered a great pain, but was also filled with deceit.

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

In The Ultima 6 Project, the now mid-thirties Leona was still caring for the Temple of Virtue in Cove. Her far more normal behavior indicated that she had grown out of the mysteriousness of her youth. She first met the Avatar after arriving at the healer Sasha. She informed the hero that gargoyles had invaded the temple, and begged the Avatar to drive them away.

After the temple was freed, Leona was more willing to speak of her duties. Leona told the hero how the Candle of Love once resided within the Temple of Virtue, and how a new candle now stood in its place to mark the artifact of Love that had been lost. Once a year, she would perform a pilgrimage to the Rusty Rudder from the temple, holding a smaller candle lit from the one residing in the temple. This, she explained, is symbolic of the giving, taking, and sharing nature of Love itself.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Ultima V: Lazarus, Leona's character portrait is modeled on project leader Ian "Tiberius" Frazier's younger sister.
