Carolyn is the tavernkeeper at The Candlelight Inn in Cove in Ultima V: Lazarus.

A friendly and warm woman, she was happy to invite the Avatar to stay at her inn, offering the hero a variety of food and drinks. Carolyn told the hero how she had originally worked as a barmaid and seamstress in Britain, and had met her husband, an adventurer, there, using his money to making a sizable profit in real estate with her business partner Nicholas. Over time, her family had grown, and about five years ago had decided to join her sons Vexis and Thurkon and her husband Dirk on an adventure to find the city of Cove. She told the Avatar that her stay would have been a short one, since even though she had fallen in love with the town, the Mystics allowed few outsiders to live there. This changed when Ava, Leona, and their eldest sister had prophesized that Carolyn and her family would play an important role in Cove's future, and they should be allowed to stay. Carolyn had immediately decided to stay, and had founded an inn, saying the town had been wonderful to her.[1]

If Iolo were traveling with the Avatar, she would tell the hero how her husband used to buy from Iolo's Bows, and praised the bard's marksmanship and skill. [2]

Carolyn willing spoke of the other citizens of Cove, saying Jessica was a fine healer and Enlor owned Mysticism. The hostess found Vortigyrn distasteful, saying he had come to write a song of the Temple of Virtue, but felt that even though the bard had reached some renown, he drank too heavily, was of poor spirit, and asked too many questions about Ava and Leona.

Carolyn told the Avatar that in the past the Mystics had subdued the monsters near Cove, creating an island of peace in the tumultuous sea that is Britannia thanks to the power of the Mystics. Still, this had begun to change with the coming of Stoneflank, an ettin of great power and cunning. Even though the Mystics did not yet consider Stoneflank a threat, Carolyn asked the hero to go out and slay the ettin before his power could grown to threaten the town. Should the Avatar slay Stoneflank, Carolyn will allow the hero to stay for free at her inn. She will also task the hero with discovering more about Ivar from Minoc who is staying at her inn, saying that even though the man claimed to be a tinker, he was inept at fixing her stove.
