Ultima IV - Valor Bug[edit]

I tried to reproduce this on the DOS version and was able to regain my eighth easily. Loaded up the Apple II version and I don't seem to be able to get it back. Modified the bug appropriately. -- Fenyx4 07:08, 14 June 2011 (PDT)

Ultima IX[edit]

Some of these bugs are unfortunately due to the engines object creation/deletion/rendering code. So it is almost random when some of these bugs occur. By the way good list update Tribun. — Iceblade

Yeah, I felt just saying there are too many won't cut it anymore. And these are the more common or regular ones. There are tons out there that happen totally at random.--Tribun (talk) 04:49, 10 March 2019 (MDT)

Which beds don’t work? Also the path finding will sometimes abort the go to bed animation if the Avatar isn’t on the right side of the bed facing the bed board. —Iceblade (talk) 07:44, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

It's random. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. There's no rhyme or reason behind it.--Tribun (talk) 10:25, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

possible unwinnable scenario in Serpent Isle?[edit]

Hi, I'm playing through Serpent Isle & The Silver Seed for the first time...the original version in Dosbox, not Exult. I'm being very careful to avoid bugs. I encountered a problem in the Dream Realm that I can't find any information on. I entered the Dream Realm with the Helm and the Mirror, but not the Rose - it was in Dupre's inventory. I explored, talked to all the NPCs, got all the loot including both infinity bows and the magic armor set, and then got to the mage's castle. I got through the first two encounters with him because I had the Helm and the Mirror, then I got to the torture room where you need the Rose. I took the key from the corpse before talking to the mage. When I talked to him he sent me back to the waking world because I didn't have the Rose. Upon reentering the Dream Realm, I find that all the items I had picked up on my previous visit are not only not in my inventory anymore, they're not in the Dream Realm anymore. All the items I picked up were gone, including the key. Without the key I can't get into the locked room in the castle and finish the quest. I couldn't figure out a way to get the items to reappear. Luckily my last save was from just before I entered the Dream Realm. So am I doing something wrong or is this a plot-stopper? Sorry if this is a dumb question and I'm just missing something obvious but I feel like I may have dodged a bullet... --174.117.88.75 15:38, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

That one is new. I guess the programmers didn't anticipate someone having the first but not the second principle item. I guess they only tested failing right away. After all, the other stuff from that place is not needed. Btw., if someone does this, putting the items onto the ground before doing a kamikaze preserves them for next time (since it is a place on the map).--Tribun (talk) 17:48, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Okay I guess I made the right call in not saving. I know I could use the cheat mode but whatever. So I guess the bottom line is, even if you have all three Artifacts with you, don't leave the Dream Realm (even on purpose via the fire) with the key in your inventory if you haven't used it yet. Thanks for the quick reply. --174.117.88.75 12:19, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

"bugs that can be exploited for cheating are not listed here"[edit]

Why not? Ultimaster (talk) 17:00, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Anchor-Links on this page[edit]

In this edit by Ultra-Mind -> https://wiki.ultimacodex.com/index.php?title=Bugs&type=revision&diff=153291&oldid=152106 the content-anchor-links changed from #Ultima_VII to #Ultima.C2.A0VII

Was this done on purpose and is to remain in this format?

SirJohn (talk) 14:49, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

I can't see that reference in that link, but I can tell you that #Ultima_VII alone wouldn't have worked as formatting code gets added. If you don't like the look of the newer anchor (and I wouldn't blame you), you could make another anchor w/{{anchor|U7}}, then you could use a much more concise URL to reference it.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 17:43, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm not too familiar with WIKI editing, but as far as I understand it, it depends on the way the headers are formatted:
== ' ' Header ' ' }} gives a nice anchor like page.html#Header

while

== { { Header II } } == results in page.html#Header.C2.A02.II or something

I'm a bit reluctant to just go ahead and change that, since I don't know, if it breaks something else - hence, I was asking on the reason behind it :-)

Actually, I don't think the formatting has anything to do w/it. But a lot of things that aren't 7-bit ASCII alphanumerics will get encoded. Just check out Potions#Ultima.C2.A0V.2C_Ultima.C2.A0VI.2C_Ultima.C2.A0VII_and_Ultima.C2.A0VII.C2.A0Part.C2.A0Two!
There isn't a whole lot that's dangerous about {{anchor}}. Obviously a name collision is something you want to avoid, but fortunately, our articles are pretty short. The only other problem I can think of is that you have multiple references to the same material but this is something we already tolerate w/#REDIRECTs. Look to Ultima_VI_signs,_scrolls,_and_books for inspiration. But feel free to develop your own style, because I was kind of green w/the feature back then.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 14:37, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
