Magical fields are barriers are various kinds which can obstruct, impede or injure those who try to pass through them.

Ultima I

In Ultima I, there was only one type of field; the kind which obstructs.

Ages of Enlightenment and Armageddon

In Ultima IV, a field could be an impenetrable barrier, a sleep-inducing field, a poisonous field or a fiery field.

Creation and Destruction

Originally called Create the field could be countered with Destroy. After Ultima I the names and methods of generation would change, but the countermeasure is always Dispel Field.
