Widow Hahna is the mayor of Minoc in Ultima V: Lazarus.
An unadulterated alcoholic, Hahna told the hero she was the mayor of Minoc and the leader of the Mining Guild, although, she admitted she looked not much like either in her current state. She claimed that even though she was mayor, she was hardly in charge of the town, for she was only a figurehead for Lord Blackthorn's Oppression and had no power. She had only gained the position of leader of the Mining Guild after her husband was killed in a mining accident, and had no desire to relive the pain of his death. She had little love for her regent, noting he had lackeys throughout Britannia and one could not escape his grasp. [1]
She further ranted on how in the past people had kept coming and bothering her, bombarding her with questions, but she soon learned that if she smoked enough, drank enough, and stopped bathing, people would soon leave her to her solitude. She was unwilling to share more of her story with the hero.
When asked about Delwyn's rumor[2] that she only gained the mayorship due to her previous association with Lady Guinere, Hahna would fly into a rage, stating that the beggar knew too much, and the only reason nobody had yet killed him was they were afraid of becoming diseased.
She offered to tell the hero all about her story if the Avatar brought her a resupply of leaf from Buccaneer's Den. Upon supplying the leaf, Hahna told how she had met Lady Guinere shortly after her husband's death, and they both had a love of drink, leaf, and power through unscrupulous means, so soon became close friends. They devised a plan where Lady Guinere would seduce Lord Tenneth, and then blackmail him into giving Hahna her late husband's mining rights and control of the Mining Guild. Lady Guinere succeeded at this, but also tried to blackmail Hahna over the circumstances of her husband's death, which soon made Hahana, Lord Tenneth, and his friend Fenelon who had dealings with Lord Dalgrin close allies. They arranged Lord Dalgrin to kill Lady Guinere, but somehow the woman survived, and returned as the captain of Blackthorn's guard several years later, forcing Lord Tenneth to flee, Fenelon into indentured servitude, and Widow Hahna into a position without power.
Trivia[edit]
- There is a bug in Ultima V: Lazarus that causes the character to only briefly appear at 7:00 am and 9:30 pm in her house. She must be talked to in the morning for she is too drunk in the evenings to speak.
