Vernix is the king of the Green Goblins of The Abyssal Colony. While being of limited intelligence, his ego is huge and he needs constant praise to be kept talking. He appears in Ultima Underworld.

Description[edit]

When the Avatar met him on the first level of the Abyss, the hero had to constantly stroke Vernix's ego in order to get information out of him and preventing him from cancelling the audience. The Avatar's self-abasement was worth it, as Vernix had a lot of information. Vernix knew of Sir Cabirus and the eight talismans, the Knights of the Crux Ansata, the Seers of the Moonstone, his feud with the Gray Goblins, and the lizard men and their language problems. When the Avatar then bid farewell, Vernix asked if the Avatar could murder the king of the grey goblins when meeting him.

Lore[edit]

Scan of the cover of the Ultima Underworld Clue Book, depicting an adventurer descending a flight of dungeon stairs, with an armoured monster at the bottom, in the foreground.

At this site, you will find Vernix, the amusingly arrogant king of the green goblins. Speaking to him is an excellent opportunity to practice your flattery, for he responds well to no other type of speech. For his species, he is something of a scholar, knowing a little about the Ancient Illuminated Seers of the Moonstone, trifling amounts of the ways of their allies the lizardmen, and rumors of the Talismans of that oaf Cabirus; but his only true virtue is the hate he bears for the rulers of the gray goblins. So nice it is to see unrestrained, murdersome rage so close to home.
