Health or "hit points" is a game concept that determines how far away from death the Stranger, an NPC or a monster is. Once this value has been exhausted, the organism dies. Health can be reduced by any number of means, including, but not limited to, combat, magical attack, poisoning, starvation, or environmental harm such as falling, drowning, walking on lava, etc.
Healing[edit]
Healing can be achieved through a variety of means:
- Some games have characters heal slowly through the passage of time
- Visiting a healer
- Magic such as Heal or through certain characters:
- The princesses in Ultima I
- Lord British in Ultima IV (and Ultima V, although at random while camping)
- Drinking from a healing fountain (Ultima Underworld)
- Drinking a health potion
- sleeping, holing up and camping
