A cluster of personal effects are found on a secluded perch on the fifth level of Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss. The fate of the owner of these items is unknown.
Description[edit]
Several items are found in a small raised room in the fifth level of the colony of the Great Stygian Abyss, just north and then east of the central hub. Among them is a diary of a Seer who was embarking on a Troll watching journey. There are no bodily remains, no bloodstains or bones, no evidence of a struggle. What happened to the person who deposited these things here? Did they die here and have their corpse picked clean by vermin? Did they leave these things here intending to come back but forgot? There are no clear answers.
The Items[edit]
The items found here are:
- 2 mushrooms and a toadstool. These are not seen growing anywhere else in the area so we have to assume that they were brought here by someone or something.
- An unblemished red gem. For visiting the shrine of Lorne?
- A nearly full lantern. Good adventuring equipment. If this was indeed a Seer, perhaps they needed more light than they could cast with the light spell but weren't quite powerful enough for the daylight spell.
- An undamaged book. The owner is someone who holds their books in high regard, keeps them safe from damage. Reading it reveals it to be a "diary of a Seer who was embarking on a Troll watching journey".
- A pouch. The pouch contains:
What spell could be cast from these stones? How would it be useful?
And what was the lockpick needed for? What needed to be unlocked? And why couldn't the obviously magical user just cast an open spell?
