C64 absence[edit]
Anyone able to get the C64 version working to test this out? Sadly I was able to get it up and running in an emulator but then failed to figure out how to make the arrow keys work. :( -- Fenyx4 21:56, August 30, 2010 (UTC)
- Ikr! How stupid is that: coming up w/such a sophisticated emulator and you can't even use the arrow keys!
- Well I eventually managed to get into Britain and search the whole place for Thevel. He's not in the Jolly Spirits and I wasn't able to find him anywhere else. I can account for every other character in the transcript and I asked every unique character "orbs". As far as I can tell, no one in Britain gives the same information that Thevel does. So:
- Does Thevel live anywhere else?
- Who, if anyone, imparts the information about how to find out about orbs?
- Another thing I noticed is that it comes w/only 2 170kb floppy sides (that is, there are only 2 virtual disks, which are 170kb each). The Apple version, on the other hand, comes with 4 140kb sides. Makes me wonder what else they gave up to reduce the code size.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 15:38, 16 April 2024 (MDT)
- Is he also absent in Ultima IV Remastered? I wonder, since if that one comes from the priginal disk files as well? If yes, then I guess they originally axed a few NPCs to not have to add an extra floppy disk. The game originally came on two double-sided floppies (meaning four sides), which for emulation somehow were being compressed to just two sides.--Tribun (talk) 00:36, 17 April 2024 (MDT)
- Well, my experience was quite far from authentic. I was using binaries that were cracked and clearly customized for an emulator (but not very well). Maybe the ColtsFan guy back in 2009 was also using abridged U4 binaries. Perhaps I was premature to edit this article...
- The Remaster binaries come w/4 sides, 2 of which are well over 170kb. I can't promise that it isn't abridged as well, but w/the better part of 1Mb of binary, it's more likely to have all the content that the original had.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 10:51, 17 April 2024 (MDT)

I just tried Remastered and this time I couldn't move east. I've spent all the time I intend to on this problem. Someone who understands C64 emulators better than me can take care of it.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 16:03, 18 April 2024 (MDT)
- What kind of emulator are you using? I had no trouble to move with the joystick once selecting the correct corntroller port. I trested it btw., and in Remastered Thevel is present.--Tribun (talk) 13:56, 19 April 2024 (MDT)
- I used WinVice and CCS64. I had more success w/the latter.
- Since we've had inconsistent results, is there a chance we can confirm which available disk images are authentic? BTW, forget what I said about the Remaster having 4 sides: it seems that 2 of those sides were duplicates of some sort.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 16:30, 19 April 2024 (MDT)
