Structure[edit]
I considered structuring the sections according to the games, which may have been more helpful to the reader, but when certain mechanics span multiple games (like spells), this can become repetitive. Perhaps a table containing the more repetitive mechanics might solve that problem?--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 21:41, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Black Gate in U8 Ethereal Void?[edit]
Nexus of the Worlds says it's a "blackrock obelisk" that transports the Avatar out of the Void in U8, but I seem to remember mousing over it, or something, and it saying "Black Gate". What do we know about it?--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 21:41, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah the object label is "black gate", but it's referenced throughout the game as "obelisk", "black obelisk", "great obelisk", "Blackrock obelisk of the Great Temple", etc. --Terilem (talk) 09:57, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- In that case, I take it there's no issue w/calling it a black gate. I don't see any reason why it can't be all those things.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 19:10, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Nomenclature among the artificial, natural and supernatural[edit]
I've been playing fast-and-loose talking about phenomena which don't have very distinct terms:
- There's what's man-made. This would include the magical as well as the mundane. I think "artificial" is a pretty good name. Anything from spyglasses to spells.
- Then there's what's not man-made. This could also be the magical as well as the mundane: from moongates to mud. The best word I can think of is "natural", but how can you call moongates natural when they are supernatural?
So the Cartesian product of what's man-made and not man-made with what's magical and mundane makes for 4 types of phenomena. It's not so bad if there's overlap ("artificial" covering the magical and the mundane) but calling something natural that's supernatural is confusing. Thesaurus.com wasn't any help. If someone's got a better idea, I'd love to hear it.--The Ultra-Mind (talk) 15:30, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
