Solaria is a female monk of dubious origin, whom the Avatar encounters during the Silver Seed quest to the past in Ultima VII Part Two: The Silver Seed. Solaria can be found just below the entrance to Aram-Dol’s lair, north-east of Serpent's Fang, and, much like her sisters, Drusilla and Rieya, will attempt to offer the Avatar counsel.

Description[edit]

She arrived with her sisters some time prior to the Avatar. While they did keep away from the fortress itself, their presence and hostility to Ophidian culture caused the garrison agitation. However, a treaty was made, in that they would keep out any unwanted elements trying to enter the vicinity of the fortress, and in turn they could stay. The uneasy peace held for the time being.

Solaria reveals to the hero that the Avatar's coming had been foretold by the Ophidians and by the Guide. Solaria however proves unwilling to reveal who this Guide is, beyond the fact she was following him. She also scolds the Avatar for arriving late, thus allowing the War of Imbalance to rage for years. She adds that circumstances do not bode well for Chaos, now that Order has invented automatons, and if Chaos is destroyed, Balance will be lost as well. She also gives a hint for a lever puzzle, which turns out to be truthful if interpreted correctly.

After the Avatar acquires the Silver Seed, Solaria and her sisters attempt to impede the hero. Solaria then reveals they are actually working for the Guardian, and have been sent by him to prevent the Avatar from restoring the Tree of Balance. Rieya becomes annoyed with Solaria for her indiscretion. She, along with her sisters, are killed by the Avatar and party when they attempted to stop this restoration.

Lore[edit]

Occasionally I overhear conversations between the warriors here in Seriss. They often mention the names of three sorceresses, members of the Dark Monks — Rieya, Solaria and Drusilla. From the information available to me at this point, I must assume that these monks have great power.

They are not fond of the Order Forces; they believe in their own distinct prophecies. These monks speak some drivel about destroying the “Pawn of Prophecy.” They believe their victim will arrive here through the powers of the Amulet of Balance. I don’t know what to make of all their prattle. I don’t think they are talking about our hero, the Champion of Balance. If he ever arrives here, I will give him the magic Key Ring as I have been ordered by thee, Calithiss, revered Order Hierophant.

The three monks haven’t caused the keep any trouble so far; therefore, I shall allow them to remain in this area. Although I don’t trust them under any circumstances, a treaty has been signed — they may each stay at the entrance of a different dungeon, as long as they repulse any interlopers seeking that route into Seriss. I haven’t been here long enough to know them well, but I plan on gathering more material for my next report to thee.

Trivia[edit]

  • If the Avatar is male, then Solaria makes no secret she is interested in the hero, flirting with him.
  • If the Avatar is female, then Solaria comments that girls not often are part of prophecies. She also speaks in flirting tones with her.
  • Solaria’s hint is: "Pull every second lever". In the first lever puzzle, the only lever to be pulled is n.2. In the second lever puzzle, a local hint is: "Pull three levers to make eight"; there are two possible combinations (8 = 1+2+5 = 1+3+4), and the correct one involves pulling lever n.2. In the third puzzle, the local hint is: "Pull four levers to make twelve"; again, there are two possible combinations (12 = 1+2+3+6 = 1+2+4+5), and the correct one involves pulling the second lever in both the four-levers set and the three-levers set (n.2 and n.6).
