Shroud of the Avatar map
Coming with Shroud of the Avatar is this map, showing the continent of Novia of New Britannia.
Description[edit]
This map shows the new continent of Novia, one of the continents of New Britannia, in a classic reduced map style as seen in the older Ultima games. Unlike all the maps of Ultima Online, the map is labeled in Runic, forcing the player to translate manually, like in the old games. The map is highly useful in order to not get lost.
Development of the Map[edit]
The map for Shroud of the Avatar has went through an interesting process.
The map was slowly revealed over the course of development in 2013 as puzzle pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, which when put together show the map of Novia, though some details from the final map are still missing. The map does consist of 35 puzzle pieces. For the released game, a digital map is part of the package, which is the same map, only finished. However, for the special physical edition, a cloth map was created, which sported a somewhat different color balance than the digial maps and the title of the game.

Trivia[edit]
- The basic shape of Novia actually has its roots in weekend D&D sessions Richard Garriott hosted in 1977. He drew a map for these sessions, which can be seen in the gallery below, which became the basic structure for Novia. That map also was the basis for the shape of Sosaria in Ultima III.
