The Shrine of Control in Ultima VI

The Shrine of Control is a shrine located in the Realm of the Gargoyles and dedicated to the Gargoyle virtue of the same name.

Description[edit]

The cavern containing the shrine is located in the far northwest of the realm. However, the adventurer must first solve a complicated puzzle of levers to shut off the force fields that protect the shrine, before being able to access the shrine itself. Once that is done, the adventurer is free to converse with the embodiment of Control: Mondain.

The Avatar visited the shrine in Ultima VI to learn more about the virtue of Control. After that time, the shrine was brought to Terfin, while the chamber was destroyed by the collapse of the Underworld. The shrine was found there in Ultima VII in the temple of the Shrines of the Principles.

Lore[edit]

In the Catacomb of Control you will master a complex pattern of levers to reach the shrine. In each shrine will you learn the mantra of one of the gargoyle principles. Combined together into one word, these syllables become the Mantra of Singularity.

No longer containing a lever puzzle, the Shrine of Control is now represented by a large icy cavern. The Avatar must navigate through a maze of elevated platforms, and then brave the frigid waters below, before encountering the remnants of Mondain.
